Following their Science lesson, students are exploring the origins of stars, including our Sun, and the phases that stars pass through over millions of years. They are invited to learn more about an aspect of the lifecycle of the star, such as red giants or black holes. Students synthesize new ideas in note-taking and short paragraphs, and demonstrate their learning in a creative follow-up work of their choice.
This week, the Upper Elementary students spent time building community. They shared “memory collections” with their friends in both home rooms. They also decorated mosaic “tiles” to be assembled as a communal art piece in our Resource Room.
This week we spent time team-building and getting to know the classroom schedule. Students reviewed parts of speech in grammar and read about how ancient people studied the sun and stars. They have been reflecting on the areas in which they want to grow this year, and learning about how they can “stretch” their minds to learn even more.
Upper elementary students are having a spectacular time, despite a bit of wet weather, on their overnight trip. Leadership, collaboration and friendship... making memories together!
