“Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.”

My experience at HPMS has helped me to become independent, a strong leader, and to have the confidence to pursue whatever I want. I am excited to meet new people, learn new things, and face new challenges in High School.

Academic Pursuits

Our middle school program includes Interdisciplinary Studies where we examine unit themes through project work, ELA, Math (my favorite subject), Science, STEM and Spanish as well as community service. Below are some of my favorite projects!

My Recent Endeavors

MATH… My favorite subject is Math. When I do math the only thing I’m focusing on is how to solve the problem. To me, math is like a puzzle and I can’t leave any puzzle unfinished. One of my favorite projects in math was the Tax Game. I loved doing all my calculations and learning how to manage money.

ELA & HUMANITIES… This year, we are doing an in-depth look at the Constitution and learning about our country’s history. Below are a couple of papers I have written:

Lyndon B. Johnson

Causes for the Civil War

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING (PBL)… I also enjoyed working on my PBL projects since I started Middle School. In this PBL unit on “Voice” during 7th grade, I chose to study the topic of “How traumatic sounds affect your mental health”. You can see my Prezi here. And in 6th Grade, I wanted to study the differences between Homeopathy and Allopathy during our “Food and Water” Unit.

Español

I’m very passionate about world issues and love to learn about different cultures. This project, created in Spanish, is about one of my favorite foods: Tamales!

Montessori Model UN

I participated in MMUN when I was in Upper Elementary. I enjoy learning about current events and enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. I was part of the Security Council representing the country of Estonia. Click below to read my position paper addressing the security situation in Libya.

After School & Humanitarian Work

I love to travel and spend time with my family and friends.

This past year, I went to Puerto Rico, did a road trip through Yellowstone, and visited India. We spent a month in Puerto Rico where I was able to continue the pursuit of my passion: swimming. I joined a swim club and got lots of practice speaking in Spanish to all my new swimming buddies there. Below are some of my travel reflections as documented in my Newsletter.

Humanitarian Work

In my spare time, I also love to do humanitarian work—which is something that has been part of my family’s values.

This part year, during the pandemic, together with my little sister, we collected 100,000 bottles of hand sanitizer that we then donated to places in need across Jersey City. We even got to meet the Mayor of Jersey City, who commended us for our good work. Below are ,my reflections on this important project.

Family

I really enjoy spending time with my family. Both my younger sister and I love to travel and experience new places.
