HPMS

COMMUNITY // CULTURE // CONNECTION

"Life is the hardest test; most people fail because they copy off
others, not knowing that everyone has different questions on their
paper. Though the A+ students are the ones who realize they can write
their own exams.”

HPMS has taught me persistence and if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish your goals. I feel like this would help me in my future pursuits.

Academic Pursuits

Our middle school program includes Interdisciplinary Studies where we examine unit themes through project work, ELA, Math (my favorite subject), Science, STEM and Spanish as well as community service. Below are some of my favorite projects!

Project-Based Learning Unit

In preparation for our yearly balloon launch in STEM class, we also studied dirigibles. We looked at the Hindenburg disaster, since it took place locally, and studied all aspects of this event. As part of a collaborative group project, my group created our own (hypothetical) zeppelin with a goal of making it as realistic as possible.

Environmental Science

I have a passion for growing things and I love that we can do that at school in the form of an urban garden. When our space got limited outside, we decided to take our gardens inside. I volunteered last summer to set up 5 aeroponic growing towers on our campus. This has been really fun for me, especially as I get to teach other students how these work… and then, think of ways to put these greens (lettuces, herbs, edible flowers) to work. One idea is to package, market and sell lunch salads to the teachers on our campus!

Español

I’m very passionate about world issues and also languages. This project, created in Spanish, features my resumé.

Montessori Model UN

I participated in MMUN when I was in Upper Elementary. I enjoy learning about current events and meeting people from all over the world. I was representing the country of Ethiopia.

After School

I love to spend time with my family and friends after school. I also love to play sports and go to the gym. I enjoyed my participation on the HPMS Basketball team— I was one of the first players to join the team! And of course, I also enjoy staying connected with my friends after school by playing video games or outdoor sports.

Family

I have an older brother who I enjoy spending time with. He is very passionate about sports, which has led me to share the same passions!
